Mark 4:26-34
You can't make a seed grow. You can water it, position it in the sun, and wait — but the life that comes from the ground isn't yours to command. Jesus knew that. And in two short parables, he uses that humbling reality to reveal something breathtaking about the Kingdom of God.
In this sermon from Mark 4:26–34, we explore the Parable of the Growing Seed and the Parable of the Mustard Seed — and discover that the Kingdom doesn't advance through human power, political revolution, or religious strategy. It advances the way a seed grows: quietly, sovereignly, and inevitably.
We'll ask why Jesus compares the Kingdom to something so small. We'll trace the mustard plant's invasive, unstoppable spread. And we'll follow a thread from Ezekiel's cedar sprig all the way to the grain of wheat that fell into the ground — and what that means for every weary sinner looking for a place to rest.
Main Idea: God sovereignly grows His Kingdom from small beginnings to glorious fullness, and it will become the resting place of all who come to the King.
